Continuing a Legacy of Connection

For nearly 30 years, Rosie the Chilean rose hair tarantula has been a beloved ambassador at Butterfly Pavilion, helping millions overcome fears and discover the beauty of invertebrates. Beginning September 8, she will move from public handling to a dedicated exhibit, where guests can continue to visit her in a more comfortable, low-stress environment.

This change reflects evolving animal welfare standards, which recommend reduced handling for mature tarantulas like Rosie and Goldie. While they will no longer be held, they remain important educators — now showcased in thoughtfully designed habitats. Rosie’s legacy lives on in the countless connections she has inspired, and her transition marks an exciting step toward future invertebrate experiences focused on both engagement and wellbeing.
